A Study on Factors Influencing Recognition of the aged about the ageism

Abstract
This study is to examine self-esteem, mental health, social relationship and other relevant factors which might affect the recognition of the aged about the ageism in an integrated way. The recognition of the aged about the ageism was classified into neglect, avoidance, isolation as to acquire precise understanding and find practical implication for decreasing the ageism. To achieve this goal, 200 of the aged in four Senior Welfare Centers in Seoul City areas were surveyed for 2 months (May.-Jun. 2017) and 199 of their answers were analyzed based on regression model. The results are as follows. It appeared that self-esteem(-), mental health(-), social relationship(+) had significantly influenced on the recognition of the aged about the ageism. In detail, mental health(-), social relationship(+) had magnificently influenced on the neglect. Self-esteem(-), mental health(-), social relationship(+) had magnificently influenced on the avoidance. Self-esteem(-), social relationship(+) had magnificently influenced on the isolation. On a basis of these results, the ways to guide and assist the aged in order to reduce their the recognition of the aged about the ageism which will increase their self-esteem, mental health were thoroughly discussed.
